Welcome — first steps
This guide walks you through unboxing, initializing, backing up, and using your Ledger device. Follow each step carefully — the recovery phrase you create is the ONLY way to recover funds if the device is lost.
Quick start — 6 essential steps
- Unbox & inspect: Confirm sealed packaging and the Ledger hologram. Only buy from reputable sellers.
- Install Ledger Live: Download Ledger Live from ledger.com — never from a third-party link. Install and follow on-screen prompts.
- Initialize device: Power on the Ledger, choose "Set up as new device", and create a PIN you will remember.
- Write down recovery phrase: Write the 24-word seed on the provided card — offline and stored securely. Do not photograph or store digitally.
- Update firmware & add accounts: Use Ledger Live to update firmware and install the crypto apps you need.
- Receive funds safely: Always verify addresses on the device screen before receiving crypto.
Unboxing
Check the box contents: device, USB cable, recovery sheet, and instructions. Compare serial numbers where listed.
Setup
Follow the on-device prompts. Choose a PIN of 6+ digits and never reuse it on other services.
Backup
Write the 24 words in order. Test the backup by performing a 'restore' on a second device if available.
Use
Install apps in Ledger Live and manage accounts. Confirm addresses on the device for every transaction.
